Wooden Mallet

Description

The mallet was an essential element in the toolkit and would have been used to strike chisels and other wooden tools, and also for driving in wooden pins, wedges and treenails. The mallet consisted of a 70mm diameter turned beech wood (Fagus sylvatica h.) head and a 30mm diameter alder wood (Alnus spp.) handle. The overall length of the mallet was 300mm
