Cleat
Description
Two cleats [SCW708 & 754] were found in the stern of the wreck, cleats are devices for securing a rope. Both cleats are wooden and are classic horn style cleats and are of similar dimensions.
SCW708 still had 2 associated pieces of rope, one 630mm long, one 700mm long, both approximately 14mm diameter (1¾ inch in circumference), the strands were S laid, from 5 Z laid yarns. This is a similar size rope to the lines reeved through the small blocks pointing to these cleats forming part of a tackle.
