Description

The most spectacular finds of all the domestic objects found on the Swash Channel Wreck are two near-complete pewter wine flagons of baluster form, domed lid and everted footring that is typical of a 16^th to early 17^th century date range SCW889 & 897. The pewter the flagons were made from contained a very high percentage of lead 40% comparable to the pewter flagons recovered of the Mary Rose (Weinstein, 2005, p. 440). The flagons have an approximate volume of 1.8l or 3 pints. No marks were observed on either flagon to give an indication of manufacture.
