Chart Compasses
Description
These are described by Aubin (1702, p. 249) as a chart compasses, it has bifid ringed hinges on both legs which interlock at the top allowing for one handed operations. Similar types have been found on the Lastdrager 1653 (Stenuit, 1974) and the Kennemerland 1664 (Price & Muckelroy, 1974).
