Description
Bottom: complete insole, midsole, and sole with oval toe, natural tread, narrow waist and medium seat, and rolled welt 15mm wide with much stitching medium present. The insole has an edge/flesh seam, stitch length 6mm, the midsole has a separate piece joined with whip stitching across the upper tread area. Sole has grain/flesh seam. A second additional sole is present at the waist and seat also with the sole seam and a line of wooden pegs running down the centre and similar tread sole is missing but pegging present in the sole showing where it was attached. A heel lift is present at the seat between the midsole and the sole and another inserted between the sole and the additional sole/sole repair piece. Insole length estimated when wet 222mm; width tread estimated 65m, waist 23mm, seat 43mm. Insole length 218mm (conserved). Sole length 247mm, tread 88mm.
Upper: oval-toed vamp with low butted edge/flesh side seams, a pair of lace holes at the instep and straight butted tongue to take a separate tongue extension, now missing. Stitching to attach a strengthening cord along the top edge of the vamp wing on the interior. A secondary cut is present above the lasting margin in the area of the little toe to relieve pressure at that point. Quarters joined with a butted edge/grain seam and butted edge/flesh front seams 35mm high. The plain cut top edge extends into narrow latchets, one with a rounded terminal with cropped corners the other straight ended, and both with pulled oval lace holes. Stitching from strengthening cord runs along the latchets and around the lace holes and follows the line of a large heel stiffener or lining on the interior of each quarter.
