Description
2 pieces of Cable:- One piece 440mm long (illustrated), the other 750mm with some concretion. Both 9 inches circumference (72mm diameter)
These 2 pieces are S laid cable, comprising of 3 Z laid ropes with S laid strands, made up of Z laid yarns. Due to the solid nature of the material, it was not possible to count the number of yarns in each strand. However, due to this solid nature, it was possible to measure the angle of lay of the cable at 39 degrees(1953 British Standard 37 degrees), the rope that made the cable having an angle of lay of 36 Degrees( B.Std 33 degrees)..
An important feature of the samples was the fact that the cable was wormed with a smaller Z laid, 3 strand piece of small stuff, approx. 11mm in diameter, with a long lay of 32 degrees. There appeared to be tar, and/or grease, deep in the contline (cantline or cuntline) amongst this worming.
